In January Year 5 pupils are finding out about health and illness. Humans are now living longer than ever because we know how to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases. And the most important thing: how to stay healthy.

We are learning about the differences between infectious, contagious and non-infectious diseases.

Infectious diseases are caused by harmful organisms called pathogens.
An infectious disease is considered contagious if it is easily transmitted from one person to another.

Non-infectious diseases are not caused by organisms and cannot be spread from person to person.

We also know that prevention is better than cure.

Here you have some tips to stay healthy:

  • eat healthy
  • do exercise
  • sleep enough
  • keep clean
  • have regular medical check-ups
  • vaccinate
  • don’t play too often computer and video games
  • say no to drugs and alcohol
